To start off the morning and inspire us for the rest of the day, Tracey Matisak, local radio and television host, will talk with Suraya Pakhad about the organization she founded and runs, the Afghani Voice of Women Organization, as well as what motivates her to do what she does under the ongoing threat of death. Her shelters give abused women safe haven, legal services and long-term protection, and she works tirelessly to raise awareness about gender-based violence that victimizes Afghan women.

PANEL SESSIONS

Panel A. "Do What is Right - Not Just Safe"

In an age when unethical conduct is front-page news, what are the driving forces that put some people on the side of the common good whereas others cannot seem to find it? Are women different from men in this regard? The panelists will discuss the research on this subject.

Our distinguished experts will share their viewpoints on doing the right thing, how that individual and cultural determination is made and the personal and societal costs.

Panel B. "Women Helping Women: Don’t Stop There"

If it weren't for other women, where would we be? The progress we've made is in large part because of the women who came before us and helped us, in ways small and in ways too huge to calculate. Join our panelists to find out who inspired each of them, how they in turn have helped other women and how the concept of "helping others" is different for men than it is for women. Then decide how YOU can commit to helping other women.

Panel C. "You Can’t Keep A Good Woman Down"

What do you do after being terminated from your dream job? Can you make it back to the top? And how do you take a personal tragedy that is destroying your family and turn it around to help others?

Hear the real-life stories from three women, and the wisdom they used, to turn extraordinarily difficult situations into triumphs: from one woman who lost her father, job – and her husband, all in just two years; to another who had a definite career plan yet still saw her job fall apart; to a third, who was willing to step forward publicly with a very private story to ultimately launch a nonprofit that would help both her family and others.

Come listen, learn and share your perspectives on how “you can’t keep a good woman down.”
