Public Sector Leadership

The Public Sector Leadership Committee (formerly Women, Policy and Politics) provides opportunities for Forum members to interact with players in the political and public policy arenas, informs Forum members about ways to become further engaged in politics and public policy and advocates for the placement of Forum members on public boards and commissions to expand their leadership and influence in the public sector.

"What I like about this group is that I know I will encounter women with different political beliefs than my own, but The Forum gives me the space to respect and interact with these women as true leaders, regardless of our ideology." — Wendy Beetlestone, Hangley Aronchick Segal & Pudlin

Summary of committee activities:

Each month the Public Sector Leadership Committee meets with a regional public policy/political leader to learn more about that leader’s area of focus and to identify any areas of interaction and partnership with The Forum and/or particular Forum members. Opportunities for engagement, appointments and other leadership posts are vetted.

The Committee plans an annual signature event designed to promote a deeper understanding of the public sector and to encourage broader participation in the sector by Forum members. Past and pending events include organizing a bus trip to Washington, DC to meet with prominent women politicians and organizing an interactive evening with prominent local players to provide an insider’s view of the political process.

A subcommittee of the Committee will assist Forum members interested in identifying opportunities on boards and commissions and advocate for such placements by positioning The Forum as an organization comprised of highly qualified candidates.

Committee member responsibilities include:

  • Attend monthly Committee meetings.
  • Identify and recruit political and public policy leaders to participate in discussions with Committee members at their monthly meetings.
  • Plan one signature event each year, as described above.
  • Subcommittee members will develop and implement a protocol for facilitating the appointment process and meeting with local and state officials to promote The Forum as a resource for officials seeking highly qualified candidates.
