The Mentoring Committee’s mission is to extend The Forum’s mission of advancing women’s leadership in the Greater Philadelphia region strategically, looking to the future. The committee provides a platform by which Forum members can enhance the development of future women leaders in the community on a one-to-one basis.

Forum members mentor younger, emerging women leaders from partnering organizations to help them build and increase the competencies required for professional, career and leadership development.

I am excited to be working with some phenomenal women on what is a cornerstone initiative of The Forum - it is at times hard work, but ultimately critical to the long term success and legacy of The Forum.  Marlene Henkin

Committee activities include:

  • Educate Forum membership regarding the value of mentoring and its mutually beneficial effect on both mentors and mentees.
  • Recruit Forum members as mentors and facilitators (members who help the mentoring pairs by clarifying roles and responsibilities of the pairs to each other, answering questions and helping smooth the path for the pairs).
  • Interface with partnering organizations such as Professional Women’s Roundtable, The Wharton Women’s Network and others that provide mentees.
  • Train each “class” of mentors/mentees.
  • Enhance and upgrade the program.
  • Execute a yearly program evaluation.
  • Design Quarterly Mentoring Networking/Educational meetings focused on areas of interest/skill development expressed by mentees (political savvy, negotiation skills, etc.).

Committee member responsibilities include:

  • Represent the Mentoring Committee and associated opportunities to other Forum members.
  • Actively recruit potential mentors, educating The Forum membership on the value and impact of mentoring younger women and the value to Forum mentors.
  • Participate as facilitator, mentor, advisor to Mentoring Program co-chairs.
  • Design and help with Quarterly Mentoring Networking and Educational Meetings.
  • Attend quarterly networking meetings and mingle.
  • Provide guidance to program participants - facilitators/mentors/mentees - as required.
  • Attend initial cycle mentor/mentee/faciliator training sessions.
