The InterOrganization Network (ION)

The Forum is also a founding member of The InterOrganization Network (ION), a national nonprofit organizations dedicated in increasing the number of women on for-profit boards and in executive suites.  Representing approximately 10,000 women, ION helps build awareness, opportunities and connections by creating a national voice for its 14 regional member organizations.  With thirteen other regional organizations (Alabama, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, California, Detroit, Florida, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Minnesota, New York, Tennessee and Texas) that are dedicated to advancing women into executive leadership roles and corporate board seats. All of the member organizations publish individual census reports, and in 2004 ION released its first report that compares the number of board seats held by women for each respective region. Media Watch Research

Research by the organization Media Watch reveals subtle differences in how women and men leaders are covered in local newspapers. A 2005 study commissioned by The Forum and conducted by the Communications Department at Temple University examined the frequency and quality of print coverage of regional leaders for gender variances. In 2006, The Forum shared the significant research results with the four major print publications included in the study: Philadelphia Business Journal, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and Camden County Courier Post.
