Winter 2010
FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Forum Members,
As I shared with you in our last newsletter, our board and committees are hard at work implementing our strategic plan to leverage the power of executive women to advance the impact and influence of women leaders. And we are all thrilled to see an increasing number of both our long time and new members actively engaging in our multiple mission-driven initiatives.
I want to thank each of you for your commitment to The Forum and dedication to our mission. I hope you are realizing your own personal and professional benefits of membership as you connect with other Forum members and participate in our expanding dialogues with the corporate, public service, academic, cultural and social service leaders whose attention we are now drawing.
I am pleased to report that we are seeing some important progress as a result of our collective, strategically-focused efforts. I invite each of you to review our strategic plan summary and progress throughout the year and contact me or our executive director, Sharon Hardy, if you have any questions or suggestions. As I mentioned in previous communications, The Forum's board is honored to serve you and will continue making our board approved objectives, strategies, tactical plans and accomplishments transparent to you for review and input. After all, we cannot harness the power of our collective membership if we do not work collectively and transparently together.
I also encourage each of you to think about what you would like to gain from your Forum membership each year and let us know how we can expand or retool our offerings to better meet your individual interests. From an analysis of a combination of membership surveys, focus group discussions and one-on-one member explorations, we recognize that our individual reasons for engaging with The Forum are very personal and may change from year to year, as we each move through different phases of life. That is why we used our survey work to identify the value propositions that seem to resonate most with our members and created a host of new outreach initiatives and smaller group programs to address our Forum members' needs. In fact, you might want to view a summary of The Forum's Membership Value Propositions and examples of the Engagement Options that track with each. These may help you plan how to gain even more value from your membership over time.
As always, feel free to call me, any of our board members, our Executive Director, Sharon Hardy, or our Associate Director, Judy Grossman, at any time with questions, ideas or requests. We are a membership of amazingly strong and supportive engaged business women who are doing wonders working collaboratively!
Take care,
Ellen Toplin

To Our Forum Membership,
We are here to make your membership in The Forum work for you.
With 350 members from diverse industries, our goal has always been and continues to be to offer YOU a range of opportunities for engagement both through our strategic planning and your creative ideas.
A recent example of this is our Social Media seminar - Effectively Using Social Media in Your Day to Day Business. A number of members asked for a session on this topic, and we delivered! If you couldn't join us...we have posted the Tip Sheet and Powerpoint Presentation in our Forum LinkedIn Group. Thanks so much to Forum member Robin Neifield for facilitating and organizing this session.
Members are Asking: How Do We Join The Forum's LinkedIn Group?
Over 100 members are currently on (and the number grows daily), posting conversations ranging from questions about HR issues to job postings and invitations to attend social events, and it's only for Forum members! (To join: Go to www.LinkedIn.com, sign up to be a member, go to groups, type in The Forum of Executive Women and request to join. We will accept your request, and you will be able to access this information and join in the discussions.)
Did You Know?
In addition to our four large signature events each year, we also offer multiple mission-driven initiatives and programs...providing many more opportunities for you to engage and meet fellow Forum member. Following are some of our initiatives that may interest you.
CEO Chats - Opportunities for a small group of members to meet informally with influential leaders in our region in their offices dialoguing about issues of common interest. Earlier in the year, we had conversations with Lynn Elsenhans, Chairman, Chief Executive and President, Sunoco, Inc. and Rob Wonderling, President and CEO, Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. Coming soon:
March: Charlie Pizzi, President & CEO - Tasty Baking Company
Late spring: Doug Conant, Chairman, President & CEO - Campbell Soup Company
Watch for registration information in an upcoming email.
Our Mentoring Program, with 24 mentees from local and regional companies, universities and non-profits, who are mentored by a fabulous group of Forum mentors. Our program continues to receive kudos from organizations and individuals in the region - and we know that we are making a difference in the lives of aspiring women leaders. We will be recruiting for new mentors in the fall. Stay tuned. (Read a letter of thanks from one of our 2009 mentees by clicking here.)
Meet The Forum Regional Breakfasts (and an upcoming spring dinner), offering Forum members-only the opportunity to get to know one another in an informal setting without a formal agenda.
Our third annual Leadership Symposium, Step Up - Stand Out: Celebrating The Power of Women! on April 22 - where you will be enlightened by thought leaders and inspired by your peers about what women have done and the possibilities for the future. (See the Save the Date that follows.)
And much, much more!!
Please feel free to reach out to me for ways to make your membership value-added and for more opportunities to engage. I welcome your emails and calls.
Regards,
Sharon Hardy
Executive Director

NEW ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVE
FORUM CONNECTORS
|
|
The Engagement Committee, co-chaired by Denise Marbach and Linda Galante, is having great success with its Connectors initiative, a step-by-step guide to introduce new Forum members to our programs, events and other members. First, the new member is welcomed by an assigned Forum member on the Connectors team. Then she is encouraged to fill out our Engagement survey either online or during the welcome conversation.
The Connectors have found that most new members are interested in meeting other executive women, and many express a desire to mentor younger women. In addition, our various committees and affinity events are described so the new member understands all that The Forum offers. Then the Connector does her work: connecting the new member to Forum leaders or women with similar professional interests.
The goal of the Connectors initiative is to have the initial conversation with a Forum member be the start of a meaningful professional relationship with our organization. So far, the Connectors committee, which is co-chaired by Linda Galante and Mary Flannery, has 28 members and has welcomed 87 newcomers to the Forum.
Our thanks to the Engagement Committee and the heads of the Connectors program, Linda and Mary, for getting this initiative up and running. And kudos to the following Forum members who serve as our Connectors:
