With 350 members from diverse industries, our goal has always been and continues to be to offer YOU a range of opportunities for engagement both through our strategic planning and your creative ideas.

A recent example of this is our Social Media seminar - Effectively Using Social Media in Your Day to Day Business.  A number of members asked for a session on this topic, and we delivered! If you couldn't join us...we have posted the Tip Sheet and Powerpoint Presentation in our Forum LinkedIn Group. In addition to our four large signature events each year, we also offer multiple mission-driven initiatives and programs...providing many more opportunities for you to engage and meet fellow Forum member.  Following are some of our initiatives that may interest you.

CEO Chats - Opportunities for a small group of members to meet informally with influential leaders in our region in their offices dialoguing about issues of common interest. Earlier in the year, we had conversations with Lynn Elsenhans, Chairman, Chief Executive and President, Sunoco, Inc. and Rob Wonderling, President and CEO, Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.   Coming soon:

Our Mentoring Program, with 24 mentees from local and regional companies, universities and non-profits, who are mentored by a fabulous group of Forum mentors.  Our program continues to receive kudos from organizations and individuals in the region - and we know that we are making a difference in the lives of aspiring women leaders.  We will be recruiting for new mentors in the fall.  Stay tuned.  (Read a letter of thanks from one of our 2009 mentees by clicking here.)

Meet The Forum Regional Breakfasts (and an upcoming spring dinner), offering Forum members-only the opportunity to get to know one another in an informal setting without a formal agenda.

    NEW ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVE

 FORUM CONNECTORS 

The Engagement Committee, co-chaired by Denise Marbach and Linda Galante, is having great success with its Connectors initiative, a step-by-step guide to introduce new Forum members to our programs, events and other members. First, the new member  is welcomed by an assigned Forum member on the Connectors team. Then she is encouraged to fill out our Engagement survey either online or during the welcome conversation.  

 
The Connectors have found that most new members are interested in meeting other executive women, and many express a desire to mentor younger women.  In addition, our various committees and affinity events are described so the new member understands all that The Forum offers. Then the Connector does her work: connecting the new member to Forum leaders or women with similar professional interests.

 
The goal of the Connectors initiative is to have the initial conversation with a Forum member be the start of a meaningful professional relationship with our organization. So far, the Connectors committee, which is co-chaired by Linda Galante and Mary Flannery, has  28 members and  has welcomed 87 newcomers to the Forum.    

Our thanks to the Engagement Committee and the heads of the Connectors program, Linda and Mary, for getting this initiative up and running. And kudos to the following Forum members who serve as our Connectors: 

NEW SEC GOVERNANCE DISCLOSURE RULING RECOGNIZES FORUM OF EXECUTIVE WOMEN 

The Forum of Executive Women's work has been recognized by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the SEC's newly-released Governance Disclosure Rule, which becomes effective on February 28, 2010 for the 2010 proxy season.  This rule requires companies to disclose if and how their nominating committees consider diversity during the candidate review and selection for open board of director positions.  Click here to read the full press release.

Rosella Harvey rharvey@northstar-advisors.com, our 2009 Forum Award winner and Senior Associate NORTHSTAR advisors, received The CREW 20 Under 40 Award, which recognizes women from throughout the commercial real estate industry age 39 or younger considered a "woman to watch" and likely an influential leader in the industry. Rosella is one of the 20 trailblazing women chosen from more than 120 nominees.

Branton Award by the National Bar Association on November 6, 2009 for leadership on the cutting edge for civil, social and economic justice.

The Communication Good Scout Award is given to an industry leader who demonstrates dedication in the community, while also serving as a commendable role model for young people.

Rosenthal roseann@sep.benfranklin.org, President & CEO of Ben Franklin Technology Partners of  Southeastern Pennsylvania, was honored with the Champion of Small Business Award by the National Coalition for Capital this summer. The Washington DC based group serves as a resource for stakeholders within the emerging entrepreneurial and investment communities as well as a sounding board for elected officials across the country to share "best practices."  Mrs. Rosenthal gave the keynote address at the group's annual dinner meeting, held in Philadelphia.

Funds were awarded to a total of 19 providers in Pennsylvania by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Rosenthal roseann@sep.benfranklin.org, President & CEO of Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania, presented at the Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) Summit for Women Business Owners in Washington D.C. on October 2. She also  participated in the Obama administration's Small Business Forum in Washington D.C. on November 18.  Hosted by U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Small Business Administrator Karen Mills, the forum focused on developing initiatives to boost capital flow to small U.S. companies.

Hon. Diane M. Welsh dwelsh@jamsadr.com, Judge, JAMS, gave the Keynote Address to the Pennsylvania Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession at their annual retreat in Hershey on November 6.  The topic was "Leadership - The Path to Success." The speech, which detailed the qualities of successful women, was published as a three part series in The Legal Intelligencer.

CRW Graphics, will be teaching in the Master's of Sustainable Design Program at Philadelphia University this spring. Cindy continues to expend her thought leadership in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility.
